LEGO Astro Bot 40899: Everything You Need to Know About the PlayStation Collectible

LEGO Astro Bot has officially moved beyond leaks and fan-made concepts. Set 40899 turns PlayStation’s small robotic hero into a 276-piece brick-built display model with movable parts, interchangeable eyes, a cape, blue propulsion effects, and a dedicated stand. The biggest catch is availability: the set is identified as a gift with purchase rather than a normal retail release.

That makes the model especially interesting for Astro Bot fans, PlayStation collectors, and LEGO builders who want to know when it arrives, whether it can be purchased separately, and how it connects to the new LEGO PlayStation set. Here is what is confirmed as of September 26, 2026, plus the details buyers should still verify before ordering.

What Is the LEGO Astro Bot Set?

LEGO Astro Bot set 40899 is an adult-oriented display model based on Astro from Team Asobi’s PlayStation series. The set contains 276 pieces and carries an 18+ age recommendation.

Instead of recreating a full level from the game, the build focuses on Astro himself. The finished figure includes the familiar white-and-blue body, black face screen, cape, blue propulsion jets, and a stand that allows the character to be displayed in an airborne pose.

The model is also adjustable. Astro’s head can turn, the arms can be positioned in different ways, and the eye pieces can be swapped to change the character’s expression. With the arms extended, the model measures more than 8 inches or 20 cm high, about 4.5 inches or 12 cm wide, and roughly 2.5 inches or 7 cm deep, including the stand.

Is LEGO Astro Bot an Official Set?

Yes. This is no longer just a rumor. The model has now been officially listed as set 40899, and current product information confirms the 276-piece count, 18+ rating, movable head and arms, interchangeable eyes, and display stand.

Earlier reports tied the model to the upcoming LEGO PlayStation console. That connection is still important, but there is a distinction between what is confirmed and what remains unclear. LEGO identifies Astro Bot as a gift with purchase, while the exact qualifying spend, regional promotion dates, and purchase conditions have not been shown consistently across current listings.

That matters because a gift with purchase does not always mean a set is included only with one specific product. LEGO promotions can instead require a minimum spend or purchases from a selected theme. Buyers should therefore check the live offer rather than relying on older reports.

LEGO Astro Bot Release Date and Availability

Current reports place the Astro Bot promotion around October 1, 2026, the same date LEGO Insiders receive early access to the new LEGO PlayStation 72306 set. General availability for the larger PlayStation set begins October 4.

The safest interpretation is that LEGO Astro Bot is a confirmed promotional product connected to the PlayStation launch period, while the final qualifying terms should be checked directly when the promotion becomes active.

This is particularly important because gift-with-purchase sets are normally limited by promotional stock. Once the allocation is gone, a gift may no longer be available even if a promotion had originally been expected to continue longer.

Can You Buy LEGO Astro Bot Separately?

At the time of writing, LEGO has not confirmed a normal standalone retail release for Astro Bot 40899.

If you want only Astro Bot and not the larger PlayStation model, the best approach is to verify the final gift-with-purchase rules before spending. Current reports disagree on whether the promotion will require the PlayStation set specifically or a broader qualifying purchase.

After the official promotion, unopened copies may appear on resale marketplaces, although secondary-market prices can change quickly depending on availability and demand.

How LEGO Astro Bot Connects to LEGO PlayStation 72306

LEGO is launching set 72306 as a 1,911-piece recreation of the original PlayStation console and its first controller. The model is designed for adults, measures close to the size of the original hardware, and includes working Open and Power buttons, a plug-in brick-built controller, and hidden Gran Turismo and Ape Escape dioramas.

LEGO lists the US price at $179.99. LEGO Insiders receive early access on October 1, 2026, while general availability begins October 4.

Astro Bot works as a modern companion to that retro display. The console celebrates PlayStation’s early hardware history, while Astro represents a much newer era of the brand. Displayed together, the two models create a clear connection between PlayStation’s 1990s origins and its modern gaming identity.

What Makes the LEGO Astro Bot Design Stand Out?

The appeal of set 40899 comes from how much personality LEGO has packed into a relatively small model.

Poseable Head and Arms

The moving head and arms allow Astro to be displayed in energetic positions instead of remaining a fixed statue. That suits a character known for running, jumping, flying, and reacting expressively during platforming levels.

The adjustable design also makes the model more versatile as gaming-room or office decor. Owners are not limited to one permanent display position.

Swappable Eyes

Astro’s digital face is a major part of the character’s personality. Interchangeable eye pieces let builders change the expression without rebuilding the entire head. Official-style product details describe both round and half-moon eye options.

It is a small feature, but it helps the model feel more like a character rather than a static decorative object.

Cape, Propulsion Effects, and Stand

The cape and blue propulsion details give the figure a stronger sense of movement. The included base supports airborne poses and turns the finished build into a shelf or desk collectible rather than a loose character model.

For a 276-piece set, these display features are particularly important because there is no large environment, vehicle, or group of minifigures to provide visual variety.

Why Astro Bot Makes Sense as a LEGO Character

Astro translates naturally into LEGO because the original character already uses clean shapes, strong white-and-blue colors, and a compact, toy-like silhouette.

The 2024 Astro Bot game expanded the character into a full-sized PlayStation 5 adventure. PlayStation describes it as a single-player 3D action platformer that sends Astro across more than 50 planets and brings in more than 150 recognizable PlayStation heroes. The game was developed by Team Asobi and released for PS5 on September 6, 2024.

That broader celebration of PlayStation history helps explain why Astro pairs naturally with a brick-built original PlayStation console. One model represents the hardware that helped establish the brand, while the other represents a prominent modern PlayStation character.

LEGO Astro Bot vs. LEGO PlayStation

Feature	LEGO Astro Bot 40899	LEGO PlayStation 72306
Main subject	Astro character	Original PlayStation console
Pieces	276	1,911
Audience	Adult display collectors	Adult display collectors
Build style	Character figure	Near life-size console replica
Main features	Poseable parts and swappable eyes	Buttons, controller, hidden dioramas
Availability	Promotional gift	Standard retail set

The smaller LEGO Astro Bot model is better suited to fans primarily interested in the character, while the larger PlayStation build is aimed at collectors who want a substantial retro-gaming display piece.

The two products also differ significantly in commitment. Astro Bot is compact enough for a desk or small shelf, while PlayStation 72306 is a much larger 1,911-piece project measuring approximately 26 cm wide and 19 cm deep.

What Buyers Should Check Before Ordering

Because the promotion details are still developing, check the live LEGO offer before completing a purchase.

Confirm whether Astro Bot 40899 appears automatically in your cart, whether a minimum spend or specific PlayStation purchase is required, whether the promotion is available in your country, and whether the gift is still in stock.

This step is more important than relying on early leak coverage. Several older pages still describe LEGO Astro Bot as unconfirmed, while newer sources confirm the set but do not always agree on the exact promotion conditions.

Buyers should also avoid assuming that the value displayed for the promotional set means it will receive a later standalone release. Unless LEGO confirms one, that remains uncertain.

Final Thoughts

LEGO Astro Bot 40899 is a compact, display-focused recreation of a prominent modern PlayStation character. Its 276 pieces create a figure with poseable arms and head, swappable eyes, a cape, propulsion effects, and a dedicated stand.

The key buying detail is its gift-with-purchase status. The model is closely connected to the October 2026 launch of LEGO PlayStation 72306, but a normal standalone sale has not been confirmed. Anyone trying to secure Astro should check the official promotion terms for their region before placing an order.

For Astro Bot fans, the set offers a strong mix of character accuracy, display flexibility, and PlayStation history in a relatively small build.
